Whether Nietzsche was right or wrong about the subject of hope is debatable. The fact is, nevertheless, that hope can hurt and heal. Sometimes even both at once. When you are in a difficult place in life, hoping for better times might grant you the courage to endure. Is the manifestation of hope prolonged to beyond what is bearable, hope can become an inoculator of sorrow.
I chose to interpret “hope” in its positive sense and incorporate the desire for progress, for progress brings with it the amelioration of the human condition.
